May 14

Yesterday I went to see Aunt Dot and she seemed real good. We changed her clothes into a new outfit I had gotten her, picked out by my daughter. She commented that she had never seen anything like it, the mix of colors. (Is that good or bad?) She also told me to tell Christine, my daughter, thank you and that she had real good taste.. We went out to have lunch with the other residents and she appeared to enjoy being out there. Made a few comments about a certain resident that talks all the time and Aunt Dot does not like that. It was a good day.

Renae just called. She just left Grace. She has been doing Aunt Dots nails on Wednesdays. Today Aunt Dot did not get her nails done as she did not want to go to her room. She wanted to stay out in the common area with the other ladies. They had pie and coffee and visited - for about 2 hours! Renae did get back into Dots room to hang her pictures. She thought that Aunt Dot was doing great.

Maybe Dot is feeling better and starting to accept her new life.

I am taking her to the Doc next week to check her out; look at her arm which is still quite sore; look at her feet. just a general check up. We need to get a doctor on file for her. He has to ok side bed rails and even support hose that they will provide. With a doctors orders!

Things are looking good today! Keep her in your prayers.

Take care, Rhonda

Welcome to Idaho

Hi Friends and Family

I created this space so that I can write how Aunt Dot is doing and anyone that is interested can keep tabs on her. I can't say how often I will update, you all know how the time gets away from me! But when something happens I will get on here and let you know.

We moved aunt Dot from Pasco to Meridian on May 2, friday. Got her settled into the nursing facility. She is at:
Grace Memory Unit

1946 N Lakes Place

Meridian, ID 83642

You are welcome to send her cards and or letters anytime you want. She would LOVE to get some mail.

Sunday, May 4

She is having a hard time. She wants to go home but that home is somewhere with her mom and dad. She is pretty insistent that they are waiting for her and wont know to come to Grace. There is also talk of train station. Must be where she was to meet them.

She does not know my name but she does recognize me when I come in and smiles. She says that the other ladies there are kindof "nose in the air" to her.

Tuesday, May 6

Aunt Dot fell going in to the bathroom. It was 5am and she had to potty and did not use her walker or her call button. They had to call 911 and take her to the hospital. 3-4 stitches in her lip and bruising on her chin. Hurt her right arm. Yet on Wednesday did not remember the fall.

Sunday, May 11

She fell again. I don't know all of the circumstances of this one. She did not hurt herself.

Tuesday, May 13

This is where we are so far. She is getting a bit depressed, I think. Wants to stay in bed and actually does sleep. She has to be REALLY encouraged to get up and leave her room. They seem to like her there and I hope that we are helping that by going often and also visiting with the nurses. I know one of them from days gone by and she keeps me pretty posted.

They tell me that they are worried about Aunt Dot. But it does take about a month to get settled. It is just that she started out so much better than she is right now. Yesterday she talked almost non stop to me but not a word of it made sense. A lot of mumbeling (is that a word?).

She gets her back up and refuses to use the wheelchair and the walker.

We still have her pictures to hang on her walls but she wont let us.

This is really a challenge! Yet it is getting easier because I finally realized that I am in the adult in my relationship with my Aunt. And it makes me sad. But it is as it has to be.

Patty has been out of town on a much needed vacation to Canada to have High Tea with her mother-in-law. She is due back on Wednesday. I have missed her! Another sister, Renae has truly been a blessing. She has been in to see Aunt Dot countless times and does her nails. It has been a great help to have her involved!!

It is important for us to get in daily to see Aunt Dot as it keeps her spirits up. Some days I only have a minute but they tell me that she does not know if I have been there an hour or a minute. The staff at Grace have been very good to us and I appreciate all that they have to do to work with these reisdents.

Well, I am off. I hope that I have given you some good information. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. rhonda@ymcinc.com or at 208-890-0526

All of you take care and stay tuned. I will try to get some pictures of Grace on here.
Have a wonderful day!
Love, Rhonda
